This fall my wife and I went and did a microbrewery tour at the Fulton Brewery in Minneapolis. Was very cool to see how they started out and to be able to compare the process verses the Miller Brewery tour in Milwaukee. During the tour they spoke about the history of the company, and where they started out. They talked about how easy it is to make your own beer.
They also explained that if you decided to try and make your own beer, do it right. There is a kit you can get from most retail chains called Mr. Beer. With Mr. Beer you mix it all together and throw it in a closet and hope for the best. They advised against this method and said that if you are going to do it, you might as well do it right.
That’s where Northern Brewer Homebrew Supply came into play. They had recommended getting one of their starter kits and giving that a try. As luck may have it, I got one of those kits for Christmas, from my wife. It was the Essential Brewing Starter Kit along with the Nut Brown Ale extract kit.
Brew day was a lot of fun. Took a lot longer than I had expected, but was a great experience to try out the process. I have a few photos I took:
