Preface: I have a lot of creative friends and I get requests to review something that they have written, or made in the past. (I would probably get more if I was actually better at getting on here and writing to review too…) My worry when this happens is that I will start reading and immediately be disappointed, and then have the conflict of having to write something up that doesn’t hurt anyone’s feelings, but remains honest and full of integrity. Fortunately though… I have a lot of talented friends, and this comic is a great example of that.
I do love a good zombie story as much as the next guy, but my fears were that the story has been told so many times in the recent past, how can this one be any different? Well it was. In the case of E.L.E. – Extinction Level Event I was interested in the characters right from the start, it had a nice countdown aspect that kept you interested and it ended with a great tease at how action filled the next issues will be. I really liked that it didn’t simply follow the whole bit/scratched deal that other media products in the “zombie” category follow.
I had hoped that it would be different than all the rest and it was!
The story line is solid, and has enough of a “cast” that it is bound to give you a character that you can relate to. Although #1 is more an introduction to the characters it gives you a taste of the action to come. The artwork is clean, modern and great to look at. I am excited to see the artwork when the story gets a little more action filled.
So, all in all, I highly recommend this book, and truly look forward to the rest of the series. Go out and buy in (in digital format) here: https://gumroad.com/l/olRt
