Minnesota State Fire Marshals Sprinkler Demo at Giertsen Company

First off we would like to thank the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office for the use of their trailer, The Golden Valley Fire Department for being there to run the trailer, along with Excelsior Fire department for delivering and also running the trailer. We also thank you for the service you provide every day!

We had the Minnesota State Fire Marshals Sprinkler Demo out for one of our Giertsen Luncheons and got a chance to educate some Property Management and Insurance professionals on how sprinklers work.

The trailer has a seating area for a handful of people, along with a windowed (yet doorless) room where the actual fire demonstration takes place. The demonstration actually consists of a live fire started in a trash can and it spreads up a curtain that is hung right above it.

At around 30 seconds of live fire, you will hear the smoke detector go off, then within seconds it becomes a full blown fire. The fire actually leaves the contained room and “spills” out into the viewing area. Just as this happens the sprinkler activates and very quickly puts out the fire.

It is important to note that the sprinkler system isn’t designed to completely put out the fire. It is designed to keep a fire contained so that it doesn’t spread to other parts of the building.
