Wizard of Oz Fact #72: The Film Used Multiple Directors
The Wizard of Oz went through several directors before production settled into a steady rhythm. Richard Thorpe began filming but was replaced after MGM executives disliked his early footage. George Cukor briefly stepped in to adjust the film’s tone, and Victor Fleming ultimately directed most of the final version. King Vidor later completed the Kansas scenes after Fleming left for Gone with the Wind.
