Wizard of Oz Fact #94: The Scarecrow’s Straw Was Mostly Raffia

Although Ray Bolger’s Scarecrow appears stuffed with straw, much of the material used in his costume was actually raffia, a lightweight fiber that was easier to manage on set. The raffia allowed Bolger to move freely and perform his signature floppy, loose‑limbed dance routines. It also prevented the costume from shedding constantly during filming.
