Early drafts of the script included a more elaborate introduction to Dorothy’s life in Kansas, featuring additional scenes with her family and neighbors. These moments were eventually cut to streamline the story and focus on Dorothy’s emotional journey. The simpler opening helped emphasize the stark contrast between the sepia‑toned Kansas and the vibrant world of Oz.
