Wizard of Oz Fact #77: The Ruby Slippers Had Felt on the Soles
To prevent noise from being picked up by microphones, the soles of the ruby slippers were covered with felt. This allowed Judy Garland to move quietly across the set during musical numbers and emotional scenes. The felt also protected the delicate sequins from damage, helping the shoes maintain their sparkle throughout production.
