
In Baum’s books, the Nome King and his people are deathly afraid of eggs, believing them poisonous to their kind. This unusual weakness plays a major role in ‘Ozma of Oz’ and later books, where eggs become a surprisingly effective weapon against the Nomes’ underground armies.
