Toto, the Cairn terrier who played Dorothy’s loyal companion, earned a weekly salary of $125 during filming—significantly more than many of the background actors portraying Munchkins. Toto’s real name was Terry, and she performed her own stunts, including scenes on the Yellow Brick Road and in the Witch’s castle.
