Bert Lahr’s Cowardly Lion costume was crafted from genuine lion pelts, making it extremely heavy and hot under the studio lights. The suit reportedly weighed around 60 pounds, and Lahr often had to take breaks to cool down between takes. Despite the discomfort, his energetic performance became one of the film’s most memorable elements.
